Located in the heart of  Speldhurst, Tunbridge Wells, this contemporary dwelling at Little Snape seamlessly blends modern architecture with the rich heritage of the High Weald. ​

The form of the new dwelling comprises a rectilinear base topped with a gabled upper storey and two storey element.  From an initial site appraisal, all concepts developed include strong defining design aspects.  A low level, single storey element combined with a 2 storey element providing accommodation required, concentrating the required area / built footprint in a concise manner within the gently sloping site.  

 

The proposed single storey massing is designed to minimise bulk and overshadowing to the new dwelling's north facing garden, allowing sunlight to penetrate while also maintaining the woodland view from host dwelling, Little Snape.​

The material palette has been carefully curated to include charred English larch, complimented with Wealden Stone walling and a dark aluminium standing seam roof system, creating a timeless architectural aesthetic. ​

The architectural massing and freestanding courtyard wall have been designed to create an articulated, layered architectural aesthetic with a stone walled base and recessed charred timber gable above.  

 

Following successful approval in December 2025 the project is now under construction, marking an exciting step toward realizing this refined, sustainable approach to modern country living.
