LONDON ROAD - MIXED USE RESIDENTIAL + COMMERCIAL

The proposed scheme is largely based around retaining an existing building core, while incorporating additions to Speldhurst Road. with An additional floor formed from 3 stepped volumes create an architecturally confident mass to an otherwise subdued architectural form occupying a prominent corner of Southborough.

The proposed development creates 4 x 1 bed units and 2 x 2 bed units which are appropriate for local demand by converting and extending the existing first floor level and through the reinstatement of a second storey in the roof level.

The main design feature is three staggered forms occupying the second floor level, with a cantilevering 2 storey gabled element to accentuate the corner junction of this site.  The staggered forms assist in the softening of mass / frontage to Speldhurst Road, providing a transition in scale from the corner junction focal point and assist in respecting the existing building line from residential properties to the West.
